When voluntary(I was in my 50's) taking my "Hunter,Safety course" in Pembroke Ga which borders Fort Stewart we were told by our Sheriffs Deputy instructor of a pack of Coyotes Attacking a hunter on the reservation.Extremely rare yes.Possible to happen again yes.Keep a constant eye on your small children around the woods and even in your yards now days.Late evenings and dark are the most dangerous times.We take our children hunting.These animals are extremely good at killing silently and at using teamwork while doing it.Please do not ignore their potential for causing you grief that can not be undone or that will never heal.Please respect their potential danger to the small fry just as you do your loaded gun. Todays Treeing Feist is the result of generations of breeding for performance and it is still primarily used to hunt squirrel, although they are also used to hunt raccoon, rabbits and flushing game birds. ![]() ![]() I liked the smaller dogs for Squirrel hunting and the smaller Beagles for rabbit for most of my life.I do not believe this to be a option any longer in my area of S.E.Georgia.We now have Coyotes.Single Coyotes will kill and eat small dogs,Fox and puppies.They can and will pack to kill a large hound size dog.I have personally seen one with a small a dog that I knew and had petted repeatedly,plus other small dogs.I have had two very close calls with my small dogs and only blind luck prevented it from happening to my dogs.My job had me on call 24 hours a day.I was coming and going at all hours of the day and night.I observed many animals.Bobcats too will do this.Foxes and Coyotes will live and hunt in the city limits of Savannah Georgia.Bobcats in small towns and crowded residential areas.I saw them.Opossums will kill and eat puppies,kittens,small dogs and cats when the opportunity arrives as will Great Horned Owls and Red tail Hawks.This is from 62 years of observation.I have had it happen to me and/or seen it.Īls ur Squirrel season starts September 15.Gators are still out and still feeding!We have Gators large enough to kill and feed on Great Danes.They will too!
